REP. POLIS ASKED TO CLARIFY POSITION ON HR-3200
Written by Tom Parsons
Wednesday, 22 July 2009 07:05

Representative Jared Polis, CD-2 is in the middle of a controversy. Not just for his July “no” vote on HR 3200, a health care reform bill touted by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but for rallying other Democratic freshman Representatives to sign a letter made public that criticized the bill as unfair to small businesses. Nationwide, as well as locally, many Progressives are very upset with Polis, claiming that, no matter his reasons for doing this, he may have derailed the passage of much needed reform legislation this fall.

Other reform advocates note that Polis, an early supporter for a Single Payer financing system for health care, was instrumental in getting the Kucinich amendment added to HR 3200 [which passed committee vote] which would give individual states the right to develop Single Payer systems, with the authority to bypass certain Federal restrictions in the process. Such an opportunity is one long advocated by Health Care for All Colorado and other grass roots reform organizations.

Our Publicity Chair, Tom Parsons, will attempt to obtain a statement of clarification from Rep. Polis or from his Washington staff in time for the August issue of The Broomfield Democrat. DONE!
